Shirley Amelia (Smith) Ricks, age 79, of Rigby, Idaho, died Wednesday, November 29, 2006, at Home in Rigby, Idaho. She was born Dec. 31, 1926, in Rigby Idaho, the daughter of James Francis Smith and Ivy Rhodes Smith. She attended and graduated from Rigby High School. She is a member of the LDS Church where she served in the cub scouts, Stake Sports Director, Primary Teacher, Visiting Teacher and served 2 LDS missions to Salt Lake City in the Family History Center. Shirley married Thomas Arnold Ricks on December 18, 1946 in the Idaho Falls L.D.S. Temple. He preceded her in death. She played softball for I.F. Rockets and Golfed with Heise women’s league. She loved attending her children, grand children and great grand children’s events, loved to cook, was especially known for her pies and fudge, enjoyed the outdoors-fishing and camping and her favorite activity was to take a ride just to see the country, loved her family and especially her best friend “Buddy”.
Survivors include daughters, Jean (Merlin) Hamblin of Kaysville, Utah, Marie (Evert) Mouser of Lewisville, Idaho, Tammy (Kevin) Olsen of Rigby, sons, Dean (Kathy) Ricks of Twin Falls, Idaho, Randy (Shania) Ricks of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Steven (Terri) Ricks of Las Vegas, Nevada, 24 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Thomas, sisters-Vonda Davey, Alta Gallup, Alice Smith, Brothers, Floyd Smith, Glen Smith, Earl Smith, Clyde Smith, Howard Smith, an infant brother, and 2 grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in the Garfield LDS Church, 77 N 3700 E. Rigby, with Bishop Kent Bradley officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 PM Friday December 1, 2006 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby and on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 AM at the Church. Burial will be at Ririe-Shelton Cemetery.
