Shoji Nukaya, of Ammon, formerly of Roberts passed away peacefully at his home on September 2, 2010 at the age of 86. He was born on October 18, 1923 in Ucon, Idaho, the second child of Kukichi and Ine Kishiyama Nukaya. He was raised and attended schools in Ammon, graduating from Ammon High School in 1942. He served as a rifleman in the 208th infantry for the US Army. In 1957 he met Harumi Miyagishima in Salt Lake City, Utah and they married December 6, 1958. They had three children Alan, Brent, and Katherine. He was a life-long farmer, was a member of the PGI and was nominated for the Agricultural Hall of Fame. He was an active member of the LDS church, where he served in various church positions, one of his favorites being the ward greeter. In his younger years he loved playing sports with his brothers, his favorite being baseball. Later in life he became an avid fisherman, bowler, and spent a lot of time chasing his grandkids around. Shoji was a wonderful man who was loved by everyone, most of all, his family. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Harumi Nukaya, of Ammon,Idaho daughter, Katherine (Steven) Katayama, of Boise, son, Brent Nukaya, of Roberts, daughter-in-law, Jeanette Nukaya, of Idaho Falls, sister, Kiyo Sakaguchi, of Ogden, Utah, brothers, Hito (Sheryl) Nukaya, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Katz (OrvaLee) Nukaya, of Idaho Falls, Fumio (Mick) Nukaya, of Idaho Falls, Jun (Taka) Nukaya, of Idaho Falls, Ken (Pam) Nukaya, of Twin Falls, sister-in-law, DeAun Nukaya, of Idaho Falls, 5 grandchildren, Christopher, Lacie, Codi, Taylor, Garret, 4 great-grandchildren, Kaycia, Dempsey, Taidg and Kapplan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Alan, and a brother, George.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 6, 2010, at the Roberts LDS Church, with Bishop Alex Anhder, conducting. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., Sunday, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby, and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., Monday, prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Market Lake Cemetery under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby, Military Rites will be presented by the Idaho Falls Veterans Team and the Idaho Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the humanitarian aid program of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
