Shon Jay Barnes

November 2, 1969 — October 8, 2025

Rigby

Shon Barnes of Rigby, Idaho, graduated from this mortal life on the morning of October 8, 2025, at the age of 55. He passed peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving wife and children.

Shon was born on November 2, 1969, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Ray and Judy (Anderson). He grew up in Rigby, where he attended Rigby High School and met the love of his life, Teena Taylor. They were married in December of 1989 in Rigby, Idaho, and later sealed for time and all eternity in the spring of 1995. Together, they were blessed with three children: Dalton (Michelle), Taylor (Cesar), and Bridger (Raschel). Shon was also a proud grandfather of six grandchildren.

Throughout his life, Shon worked in the beverage industry as a service manager and was known as an excellent mechanic. He generously shared his talents, often repairing cars to help those less fortunate. His commitment to youth and community was profound—he served as an active scouter and scout master, influencing many young lives. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he served in many roles on the stake and ward level. For more than 20 years, he owned and operated a karate dojo, teaching discipline, respect, and confidence to countless children and teens. Shon frequently donated his time to teach youth groups and give back in ways that left lasting impressions on those around him.

Beyond his work and service, Shon loved camping and riding motorbikes, spending most summers outdoors. He found joy in working on cars, fixing things, and especially teaching karate—sharing his passion with as many as possible. Those who knew Shon will remember him as a kind-hearted and generous man, always willing to sacrifice his own time and energy to help others. His life reflected the Bruce Lee philosophy he admired:

“Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless, like water.

You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup.

You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle.

You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot.

Now, water can flow or it can crash.

Be water, my friend.” His influence, service, and love will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

Shon is survived by his wife, Teena; his children, Dalton (Michelle), Taylor (Cesar), and Bridger (Raschel); his six grandchildren; his father, Ray (Tina) Barnes; his mother, Judy (Nathan) Bridges; and his siblings Shane (April), DeEtte, and Jeramie. He was preceded in death by his brother, Mick; and his grandparents, Ernest and Ruth Barnes, and Milton and Ardell Anderson.
