Stella Marie Hammond

Our sweet mother and wife, Stella Marie Andrews Hammond, departed this life May 11, 2011 at her home in Rigby, Idaho. She was born the 19th of September 1933 in Logan, Utah. She was the 2nd of 5 daughters born to George Tomas Wright Andrews and Annona Burdella Carlson. The family moved to the Los Angeles, California area in 1937 and settled into the Bell Gardens area in 1940. Stella graduated from Bell Gardens High School. She worked as a secretary for Chrysler Motor Company in Maywood California. On March 5, 1955 she married Robert James Hammond in Pasadena, California. They were later sealed to each other and their 5 children on March 2, 1968 in the Los Angeles California Temple. Robert and Stella lived in the San Diego California and Vista area, while Robert was in the Marine Corp. In 1958 Robert became a Police Officer and the family moved to Santa Ana, California and later raised their family in Buena Park, California. While living in Buena Park, Stella worked for Yamaha Music Corporation as a Secretary and Bookkeeper. Robert and Stella moved to Rigby, Idaho in 2004. Mom loved being a mother and wife. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great –grandchildren, along with early morning walks, working in the yard, reading, and donating money to various Indian Tribes (casinos). Mom loved to crochet and was always working on a blanket for someone. Her grandchildren each received a blanket she made especially for them. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She accepted and loved the callings she received as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved doing temple work. She wore out her life in service to her children. Stella is survived by her husband, Robert of 56 years, Rigby, Idaho. Daughters, Charlotte Lee (John) Hammond Elsey, of Lindon, Utah; Lori Jean Hammond Lange, of Rigby, Idaho; Lisa Ann Hammond Salazar, of Buena Park, California; Rebecca Lynn Hammond Nussle, of Anaheim, California; Son, Karl Robert Hammond, of Buena Park, California, 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Ethel Andrews (George) Collier, of Anaheim, California; Janice Andrews (Roger) Martinez, of Bell Gardens, California; and Georganne (Wayne) Andrews Asher, of Mesa, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Shirlee Mae Andrews Blakely, and a grandson, John Michael Elsey. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011, at the Rigby 2nd Ward LDS Chapel, 364 N., 4100 E., Rigby, with Bishop Robert Clark, conducting. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Parker Cemetery, under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
