Rigby, Idaho

Steven Richard Spencer, son, father, grandfather, passed from this Earthly life in Rigby, Idaho on February 23rd, 2026. Born March 19th, 1956 in Murray, Utah to George and Ellen, brother to Linda, Karla, Kent, Denise and Debby, he is survived by his three children and their spouses, Jennifer and Cody Anderson, Steven W. and Jenny Spencer, Matthew Spencer, his first wife, their mother Lorraine Kling Spencer, his second wife Pam Christiansen and her children, and his many beloved biological grandchildren and those brought to him through marriage. He loved each deeply, and nurtured those graced with knowing him with a quick wit and a warm smile. He will be remembered for the kindness and generosity of spirit that only the best of humanity knows how and when to wield. His tender heart and love of animals were nothing short of inspirational. First to lend a helping hand, and last to take credit for the happiness he brought to others, Steven was a rare character, and a blessing to those that were privileged to know him.

A talented and technical craftsman, he made a career as an exacting machinist, and a name with friends and family as a handyman that knew how to fix or improve upon anything in or around the home. He started as a mechanic at Clark’s Car Service in Salt Lake City, Utah, while he pursued certification and higher education to learn the trade of machining metals into precise components that would be used across the world in everything from delicate animatronics for King Kong at Universal Studios, to complex water distribution systems in national dams, and the lifesaving inner workings of automotive airbags. He took great pride in the exacting nature and complex calculations of his work. Not limited to a single trade, he loved to work on his homes, carpeting, drywalling, painting, plumbing, and more, turning a fixer-upper into a beautiful family home for those he loved, and teaching his children valuable lessons on independence and personal achievement.

He will be remembered by those that knew him best for always feeding stray animals and bringing home more than one as a welcome addition to the family. He took much the same care of people, always happy to help those less fortunate, and to show many the love and compassion they had been denied elsewhere in life. He loved nature, taking his family camping, exploring the wilds, and visiting historic cities of the West. He was always striving to leave a lasting, positive impact on the world. He chaperoned school outings, attended self-improvement courses, distributed food and provisions to the homeless, provided humorous and thoughtful life advice to those he loved, and he joyed in his faith and service to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

He will be sorely missed and deeply loved by those of us lucky enough to have shared our time with him in this brief window between eternities. May he rest in peace in the company of those that have passed before him, and in the hearts and minds of those that remain to carry on his legacy.

A private family service will be held in celebration of his life on April 10th, 2026.
