Steven Gregory Fletcher

Steven “Steve” G. Fletcher, 56, of Rigby, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home on March 8, 2026, surrounded by those who loved him most, after a courageous battle with a chronic illness. 

Steve was born in California to Carolyn Fletcher (Bentley) and was later adopted by Thomas Fletcher. He spent his early years enjoying the outdoors—body surfing, riding horses, and finding adventures wherever he could. As a teenager, he moved to St. Anthony, Idaho, where he continued to build a life rooted in hard work and independence. 

He earned his GED and attended culinary school in Utah, later working at the Loft Restaurant in Rigby. Though he eventually chose a different path, his love for cooking stayed with him. Steve went on to become a long-haul truck driver, embracing the freedom of the open road and the opportunity to see new places. 

Steve truly embraced the outdoors and lived for adventure. Whether spending a day at an amusement park, enjoying summer and winter sports, camping under the stars, or setting out on a road trip, he was always eager for his next thrill and experience. Above all, fishing brought him the greatest sense of peace and happiness — a passion he cherished in every season. 

He also found joy in life’s simple and often humorous moments—whether it was a funny hat, a quirky shirt, or even something as simple as a really large cooler, Steve had a way of appreciating the little things and sharing a laugh with those around him. 

Steve will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his love of family, and his ability to find happiness in both life’s greatest adventures and its simplest pleasures. Like starlight, his love continues to shine—constant and eternal—even in the darkest nights. He will be deeply missed and forever loved. 

He is survived by his children, Ashleye (Tanar) Guild, Douglas (Megan) Fletcher, and Alexander Fletcher. His partner, Shelly Mathie; her children; Dustin (Cheyenne) Mathie, Delta (Jessica) Mathie, Shaylyn (John) Schell, and Dakota Ruiz. His 2 siblings, 2 grandchildren and 17 bonus grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Steve’s Celebration of Life will be held on May 30th at 11:30 am at the Southeast shelter in the Nature park in Rexburg ID. Seating may be limited so please bring a camp chair if you would like.
