Carolyn Susan Metzger, age 66, of Rigby, died at her home of cancer, on Wednesday, May 7, 2008. She was born December 1, 1941, in Salt Lake City, UT, the second child of Wallace Marion Clinger and Ruth Cloward. She was raised in Salt Lake and was a graduate of East High School. She continued her education and graduated from the University of Utah with a composite degree in English, speech and journalism and then went on to serve a LDS Church mission in Paris, France. Upon returning from her mission, she taught high school in Chandler, Arizona, for three years, and then went to Brigham Young University to work on her master’s degree in teaching foreign languages. While there, she met her husband, David George Metzger of West St. Paul, Minnesota; they were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 25, 1972. She enjoyed sewing, canning, camping, and serving her family. She was an active and devoted member of the LDS Church and served for many years in various callings, having been a stake and/or ward choir director for several years. She is survived by her husband David George Metzger of Rigby; four daughters: Jenny (Greg) Hollingshead of Bountiful, UT, Amy (Dan) Gull of Ogden, UT, Emily (Jason) Petersen of Eagle Mountain, UT, Kristy (Chris) Hall of McKinney, TX; two sons: Thom (Shalene) Metzger of Boise, and Scott (DeAna) Metzger of Idaho Falls; two sisters: Ann Mentes of Salt Lake City, UT, Rebecca (Marv) Ericksen of Brigham City, UT, three brothers: Richard (Jeri) Clinger of Sacramento, CA, Ralph (Tami) Clinger of Yucca Valley, CA, Cordell (Shauna) Clinger of Salt Lake City, UT, and fourteen grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 15, 2008, at the Rigby LDS Stake Center, 258 West 1st North, Rigby, with Bishop Earl Bishop, conducting. The family will visit with friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery, under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.eckersellfuneralhome.com
