T. Gary Gautier

T. Gary Gautier, 80, peacefully passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022 in Rexburg, Idaho.

Gary was born to Theodore Elbert and Mary Leona Gautier on May 19, 1942 in Salmon, Idaho. Gary attended Pocatello High School, graduating in 1960. Gary graduated from Idaho State University in 1964, then continued his education, obtaining a Master’s and Ph.D. at University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. In 1967, Gary married his sweetheart, Barbara Elynn Thomas in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

During his life, Gary lived in Murray Utah for five years and Arlington, Virginia. Gary had a great work history. He was a summer ranger at Craters of the Moon, he taught Geology at Idaho State University, in 1970-1971 Gary worked for the Natural History Museum at the Smithsonian Institution and retired as a deputy director and Head of the Automatic Data Processing Program, retiring in 1997.

Gary and Barbara owned and operated the Pure Wood Unfinished Furniture store from 1999 through 2016. Gary loved woodworking, building furniture and cabinets, he also liked to do genealogy, fish, deep sea fishing, pedal bike riding and was a scout leader for his boys.

Gary is survived by his wife, Barbara, his sons Theodore “Russell” (Jenny Cascio) Gautier of South Pasadena California, and Anthony Thomas Gautier of Sacramento California, and his brother Thomas “Tom” (Cheryl) Gautier of Boise Idaho. Gary is preceded by his parents.

A memorial graveside service will be held for Gary on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery. Please bring your own chair.
