On Friday, October 3, 2025, as her children gathered around her, Tamara Diane (Philburn) Mobley, our angel mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, ran into the arms of our Savior. She knew Him well because in this life she was His hands. She lifted, loved, served, and mourned with us while teaching us to look for the “glimmers” in our lives.

Tamara, age 57, was born October 1, 1968, to Linda Diane (Hibbard) Philburn and James Lee Philburn in Howell Michigan. Her parents and brother, Jared Scott Philburn, preceded her in death and tenderly embraced her as they welcomed her home. Together they protectively watch over her loved ones who have stayed behind. These include her five children, Jordan (Melissa) Mobley, Mackenzie (Gregg) Sagers, Brianna (Cody) Bowden, Mateya Mobley, Gabriel Mobley, her nine grandchildren, and four of her siblings, Robert (Deborah) Philburn, Eric (Lynn) Philburn, Jaime (Eric) Cottle, and Scott (Kimberly) Philburn.

As a mother, she was the biggest fan of all five of her children. She went above and beyond to support and encourage them in every endeavor. As adults they now treasure the unconditional love and deep friendship they shared with their mother. As a grandmother, she made a point to gift her grandchildren many memories and experiences together. She understood that our time together on earth is fleeting and precious.

Tammy was known as “the gatherer” among her friends and family. She was always organizing opportunities to connect and have fun, from the annual Mobley “Survivor” competition to many lunch dates and girls trips. Her friend network was extensive. To know Tammy was to feel like one of her closest friends. She sincerely loved and cared about the people in her life.

Tammy was an active member of the Southeastern Idaho triathlon community. She began doing triathlons in 2006 and soon found a talent and passion for the sport. She recruited many from her extensive friend network to compete with her and became the coach and team leader. They found deep camaraderie in “doing hard things” together. She also organized and ran the Kick Butte Triathlon in Rigby, Idaho for 3 years.

In January of 2024, Tammy was diagnosed with Bulbar onset ALS, a cruel and debilitating terminal illness. But Tammy continued to find the “glimmers” in her life. She made the most of the time she had left. She traveled the world, going to Australia, Turkey, Norway, Japan, California, Oregon, and the Outer Banks of North Carolina, among other places. She spent time connecting with family and friends for as long as she could. Even after ALS stole her voice she had deep and meaningful conversations and moments with her family and friends that they will treasure forever. Tammy swam, ran, walked and rode her bike as long as possible throughout her disease because she treasured the body she was given during this earthly experience. She lived to the last with “grit and grace”.

As the sun sets on Tammy’s mortal life, we recognize the vibrant rays of her love, friendship, and kindness that will continue to glimmer in every heart she has touched.
