Thomas “T.C.” Clarence Mitchell, 84, of Monteview, died Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at his home, under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice.
He was born September 14, 1924, in Arkansas City, Kansas to Thomas Mitchell and Bessie May Finck Mitchell. He was raised in Monteview and attended schools in Level and Hamer. He served in the US Navy during WWII. On October 6, 1946 he married Ruby Lott in Terreton; their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls, LDS Temple on December 4, 1957.
He owned and operated T. C Mitchell Land Leveling in Monteview. In 1971 he purchased the first laserplane controlled land leveler in the entire northwestern United States which was considered an important development in the “space age” technique of land leveling. In his later years he lived in Arizona City, Arizona, and then returned back to Monteview to retire for the remaining years of his life.
He became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1956, T.C. enjoyed land leveling and mechanics, and loved playing guitar and singing.
He is survived by his wife Ruby Lott Mitchell, of Monteview, daughters, Heather “Nancy” (Gerald) Messerli, of Terreton, Janie (Steven) Miller, of Rockland, Jeanie Dixon, of Idaho Falls, Jenny (Jack) Hanson, of Monteview, Melody (George) Fliege, of Berlin, Germany, Susan (Burt) Jurak, of Bakersfield, CA, Ruby (Mark) Taylor, of Iona, Althea (Duane) Torgerson, of Riverton, WY, sons, Ned (Linda) Mitchell, of Casa Grande, AZ, Rex (Diane) Mitchell, of Caldwell, TX, Ross (Merilee) Mitchell, of LaCanada, CA, Dan (Terri) Mitchell, of Terreton, Tom (Debbie) Mitchell Jr., of Casa Grande, AZ, brothers, Warren Thomas Mitchell, of Monteview, Donald (Cheri) Mitchell, of Brookings, OR, 56 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Bessie Mitchell, of Dubois, brother, Lyle Mitchell, sons, Jim Mitchell, Tim Mitchell, and 5 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the Monteview LDS Chapel. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, both at the church. Burial will be in the Fielding Memorial Cemetery, under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
