Ted C. Furniss, 86 of Grant, died Thursday, March 6, 2014 at his home.
He was born June 12, 1927 in Bates, Idaho to George C. Furniss and Sarah Ann Nelson. He was raised and attended schools in the Teton Basin and attended Teton High School. He served in the US Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. He married Venice Orgill September 16, 1949, in Egin, she preceded him in death. On October 6, 1954 he married Dorothy Alice Ellis in Driggs; their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple May 6, 2007. They were blessed with 2 daughters and 3 sons. Ted worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the INL for many years.
Ted was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; he was also a member of the VFW and DAV, the Operating Engineers Union and the American Quarter Horse Association. He was an avid horseman and was inducted in the Eastern Idaho Horseman’s Hall of Fame in 1998. He taught pony and horse driving with the 4-H for 40 years. If Ted wasn’t riding horseback, he was thinking about it.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy A. Furniss, of Grant, daughters, Lorraine Norris, of Idaho Falls, Shawna Furniss, of Idaho Falls, sons, Matthew T.(Martie) Furniss, of Idaho Falls, Thomas K. (Betsy) Furniss, of Parker, Travis L. Furniss, of Idaho Falls, sister, Mary Ellen Struttman, of Vancouver, Washington, 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Venice Furniss, his parents, George and Sarah Furniss, sisters, Deaun Cover, Vonnie Bowen, brothers, Henry Furniss, Wayne Furniss, Oren Furniss, and Cloyd Furniss.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 10, 2014 at the Grant LDS Chapel (3431 E. 100 North, Rigby). The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Sunday at Eckersell Memorial Chapel (101 W. Main Street, Rigby) and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Bates Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
