Troy Carlson

September 2, 1937 — October 24, 2018

Mary Troy Carlson, age 81, died on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at her home. Troy, as her family and friends knew her, was born in Lyman, Idaho to Roy and Elva (Young) Robison on September 2, 1937. She was the oldest of seven children.

Troy grew up in the Lyman area and graduated from Madison High School in 1955. During her senior year of high school, Troy married her sweetheart Clifford Clint Carlson on November 20, 1954. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. They welcomed four children to their home. Troy supported Clint through a long military career, taking care of the family while Clint served his country including a year-long deployment to Vietnam in 1968.

Troy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout her lifetime.

Troy worked part-time for the US Census Bureau completing 20 years of service and had many interesting experiences calling on homes in the upper valley. Troy attended VoTech earning her Licensed Practical Nursing degree. She worked in the newborn nursery at Madison Memorial Hospital where she cared for many of her grandchildren during their first hours of life. She later moved to Central Sterile Processing where she finished her career.

After her retirement from the hospital, Troy and Clint spent many happy hours on the road hauling fuel to many intermountain locations. They became expert at catching “hops” with the US Air Force and traveled the world, visiting Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia, England, Germany, and other European countries.

Troy’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She always had a smile in her voice. Many memories surround Troy and her fantastic cooking. Her rolls, both dinner and cinnamon, were a highlight of family gatherings. She was a skilled seamstress and loved to make and clothe porcelain dolls.  Troy loved to read and often had the full limit of books from the library.

Troy is survived by her husband, Clint, of Lyman, children Aubrey (Brad) Howell, Roundup, MT, ShaRee Carlson (Karl Serr), Wendall, ID, and Mary Kim (Brett) Williams, Lyman, ID; two sisters, Tamara (Dale) Peterson and Tracy (Merle) Hymas, three brothers, Rand (Dorothy) Robison, Rod (Sharon) Robison, and Ford Robison; 13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Tommy, a brother, Burdett, and her parents, Roy and Elva Robison and her husband’s parents, Neldon and Agnes Carlson who thought of her as their own. She was also preceded by a sister-in-law, LaRae Sparrow, a nephew, Redge Roy Robison, and a niece, Tenise Peterson.

Troy’s daily acts of service, for which she desired no recognition, defined her life. She was loved and will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her.

Troy’s family would like to thank Aspen Home Health and Hospice and especially her wonderful nurse, Jill Williams, for their kind and dignified service to our wife, sister, mother, and grandmother.
