Troy Glen Monk, 60, of Rigby, Idaho, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025, in Rexburg, Idaho, at Madison Memorial Hospital. Troy was born on January 29, 1965, in Tacoma, Washington, the son of Roy Glen Monk and LaRee Gail Hope Monk.
Troy attended schools in Rigby, Idaho, and graduated from Skyline High School. During high school, he worked at James IGA Grocery Store in Rigby. Following high school, Troy joined the United States Army, serving in the 101st Airborne unit. He earned the following Badges and Medals: Army Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Expert Marksmanship Badge (Rifle), M-16 Expert Marksmanship Badge (Grenade), Air Assault Badge, and the Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver - W Bar. Troy also graduated from both Army Ranger School and Air Assault School.
This gave him the opportunity to see many places, including living in Germany.
After his release from the Army, Troy worked for a short time at Coca-Cola in Idaho Falls. He then joined the Idaho State Highway Department, where he steadily climbed the ladder until he became an inspector completing 32 years of service. Due to health issues, he took early retirement.
Troy loved the outdoors and could be found there at every opportunity—hunting, camping, or floating the river in his boat while fishing. Often, he could be seen floating outside the boat, holding onto a rope. He was also a passionate rockhound who crafted jewelry and other items from his rock discoveries. Troy enjoyed attending rock and gem shows.
Troy married Nona Lourdes Padlan shortly after meeting her at his cousin's wedding, where they were paired together as part of the bridesmaid and groomsman ceremony. Nona and Troy cherished the time they had together. He leaves behind a broken heart, after 24 years of marriage.
Troy was a remarkable man, a devoted friend, a loving father and grandfather, a patriot with a profound love for his country, and an exceptional husband.
Troy is survived by his wife, Nona, of Rigby, Idaho, and his daughter, Amanda Monk, of Idaho Falls, Idaho. He is also survived by his sister, Anita Nelson, of Benson, Arizona, and his brothers, Kelly Monk, of Hamer, Idaho, and Jeff (Angie) Monk, of Rigby, Idaho. Troy had two grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
Troy was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and LaRee Monk, and his brother-in-law, Layne Nelson.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 7, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Eckersell Funeral Home. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 9:30-10:45 a.m. After the service the burial will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery.
