Velma Lake

January 21, 1916 — July 31, 2008

Velma Lake, 92 of Rigby, died Thursday, July 31, 2008, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. She was born January 21, 1916, in Annis, to Erastus Walker and Mary Alvina Smithies Walker. She attended schools in Annis and Rigby and graduated from Rigby High School. On October 13, 1934, she married J. Morgan Lake Jr.; their marriage was solemnized March 31, 1936, in the Logan LDS Temple. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in all of the Women’s Auxiliaries. She was also a member of The Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Dorian Camp. She served in the Business and Professional Women’s Association, volunteered at EIRMC for 13 years, and served on the Rigby Library Board. Velma enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening, painting, photography and scrap booking. She is survived by her husband, J. Morgan Lake Jr., of Rigby, daughters, V. Eileen Jenkins, Jean (Harold B.) Scoresby, both of Idaho Falls, sons; Dennis M. (Luann) Lake of Moreland, IdahoAlan W. (Lore) Lake of West Jordan, Utah, a sister, Laveta Wilyerd, of Idaho Falls, 19 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren and 6, great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, and a brother, Verl Walker. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 4, 2008 at the East Rigby Stake Center, with Bishop Brett Olaveson, officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main St., Rigby, and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Monday, prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
