Velma James Stacey, 89, of Rigby, died Tuesday, February 04, 2014 at her home.
She was born January 17, 1925 in Ogden, Utah to William Henry James and Lydia Brown Foster James. She was raised in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School. On July 25, 1942, she married Eldon Richard Stacey in Malad Idaho; their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They were blessed with 1 daughter and 4 sons. Velma and Eldon made their home in the Lorenzo Area. She worked for Ucon Produce, D & L Cleaners and for many potato warehouses and farmers in the area.
Velma was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; she served in the Relief Society and Primary. She was also a member of The Daughters of The Utah Pioneers. Velma enjoyed quilting, cooking for friends and family, visiting with people, traveling to see family and helping others.
She is survived by her sons, Richard Lee (Virginia) Stacey, of Boise, Douglas James (Barbara Jean) Stacey, of Rigby, Edwin Blaine (Pat) Stacey, of Rigby, Kenneth J. Stacey, of Rigby, Idaho, 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Velma Faye Johns, granddaughter, Ana Peltier, grandson, Brandon Stacey, 5 sisters, and 4 brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 7, 2014 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 West Main Street, Rigby. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., prior to services, Friday, both at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Sutton Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Funeral Home in Rigby.
