Veona Hansen Hayes

VeOna Hansen Hayes died of natural causes Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at her home in Lewisville, Idaho. VeOna was born October 12, 1935 in Rexburg, Idaho to Chancy Hans Hansen and Edith Viola Forsgren Hansen.  She was raised at Lewisville where she attended elementary school and graduated from Rigby High School in 1953.  Summers were spent at Pleasant Valley milking cows and leading and participating in 4-H clubs.  The accumulated 4-H records awarded her a trip to 4-H Club Congress in Chicago, Illinois in 1952.  She continued to lead 4-H clubs for many years.She married Terry Lee Hayes in Pocatello, Idaho September 25, 1953. To this union, five children were born; Bruce L., Gregory Brent, David Brian, Donald George and TeriLyn.  This marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on July 30, 1964. She moved to Monteview where she and Terry operated the family farm until 1960 when they moved to Lewisville. She started her teaching career in Hamer, Idaho and then transferred to Midway Elementary where she taught until retiring in 1994.She was a member of the Idaho Falls Gem and Mineral Society for 20 years. She was a member of the Jefferson Bowmen, Southfork Archers and Idaho State Bowhunter for many years during which she competed in local, state and national levels winning numerous awards. She is survived by children, Gregory Brent (Laura) of Lewisville, David Brian (Shirlee) of Idaho Falls, and TeriLyn Chenoweth of Idaho Falls; Sister Bonnie Savage of Hamer, 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sons Bruce and Don.The family will receive friends Monday, April 23, 2018 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel from 7:00-8:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 24 at 1:00 p.m. at the Spencer cemetery.
