Vera Moyes Lloyd, 94, of Rexburg, died Monday, December 28, 2009, at Rexburg Care and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Plain City, Utah to George Daniel and Amanda Christine Olsen Moyes, on July 14, 1915, and lived in Ogden, Plain City, and Brigham City, Utah. She was the middle child and only daughter in a family of six boys; Mac, Earl, Lin, Frank, Arnel and Thayne. After graduating from Box Elder High School in Brigham City, she met and married Shirley B. Lloyd of Springfield, Idaho. They were married November 20, 1935 in Blackfoot, Idaho and later were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on November 27, 1938.
Vera was a great homemaker and mother. She was highly skilled in the domestic arts. She sewed beautiful items of clothing for her family and professionally for others. Her hands flew with the crochet hook, and she painted highly-prized paintings after the age of 60. Vera was involved in the Relief Society, especially Home Making Counselor, for much of her life.
Vera and Shirley lived on a small farm in Springfield which bordered the Springfield Lake, until they moved to Rigby, Idaho in 1957, where they remained until after Shirley died. Then Vera sold the home with its large yard and moved to Rexburg, Idaho. She broke her hip in 2007 and since then has lived with her daughter and in assisted living centers.
She is the mother of three children, Duane Shirley (Elizabeth) Lloyd in Bricktown, New Jersey; Gary Moyes Lloyd (deceased) and wife (Anna) of Archer, and Karen Sue (Jerry) Browning of St. Anthony, Idaho. She is the grandmother of 15 children the great-grandmother of 47 children, and great-great grandmother of one. She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1993, a granddaughter; Barbara Michelle Lloyd in 1966, a grandson, Justin Bryce Moser, in 2005, a son Gary Moyes Lloyd, in 2004; and was the last remaining child of George and Amanda Moyes.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 2, 2010 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Springfield Cemetery, in Springfield, Idaho, under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel.
