Verda Simmons, 86, of Pocatello, formerly of Hibbard and Teton, passed away Sunday, December, 7, 2008.
She was born July 5, 1922, in Rigby, to Elbert Kirby Nielsen, and Ida Hanson Nielsen. She was raised and attended grade schools in Annis, and attended Midway High School. On Jan 31, 1940, she married Roy H. Simmons in Annis, in 1955; their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls, LDS Temple.
She worked for Idaho Potato Growers, was a floor supervisor for Roger Brothers for 18 years, and worked at the Annis Store. Verda was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, and cooking. She especially loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, and was loved by all who knew her.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Gould, of Chubbuck, a sister, Carol Johnson, of Rigby, a brother LaVerl Scott, of Idaho Falls, 5 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roy, a daughter, RaNae, 2 sisters, Rhea & Gladys, a great granddaughter, a step-sister, a step-brother and her step-father.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Friday December 12, 2008 at the Newdale LDS Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby, and from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m., Friday, prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery, under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
