Verla Clark

On February 23, 2013, Verla Browning Clark, 90, of Lyman, returned to her Heavenly Father. She was born July 1, 1922, in Lewisville, Idaho, and was a big surprise, as no one expected twins. Verla and Verna were raised in Butte, MT. The family later moved back to Annis where they enjoyed music and dancing together, singing duets in church and talent shows as they grew up. They also cleaned house, scrubbed windows and floors while their mother worked. Later they thinned beets, weeded potatoes and herded cows, many times practicing a new song as they worked. They attended and graduated from Midway High School, where they made many lifelong friends and for graduation the twins sang “Memories”. Saturday nights Verna and Verla attended dances at Riverside Gardens. There Verla met Wallace “Pat” Clark, her best friend and dance partner. On February 22, 1941, they were married in Annis. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan L.D.S. Temple on May 3, 1944. Pat and Verla built a home in Annis, later moving to Idaho Falls and then to Rexburg. As the kids got older she went to work in food services at Madison High School. She enjoyed both the ladies and hard work for 9 years. After Pat passed away she worked at Artco until she retired. Over the years she has loved making special meals for holidays and visiting family. Verla enjoyed meeting friends for lunch and their birthdays, and shopping trips with Verna. She was family oriented and always had a treat for visitors. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she held many positions. She served a mission to the Chicago, Illinois Temple, and worked as an ordinance worker in the Idaho Falls Temple. Verla was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers Basil and Darwin, twin sister Verna, daughter and son-in-law Colleen and Lorin Mortensen, and 1 great granddaughter Katlyn Mazzone. Verla is survived by sons Von (Carla) Clark of Lyman, Archie (Nedra) Clark of Idaho Falls, daughter Jan (Brett) Siepert of Lyman, Brother Jerry (Karen) Browning of St. Anthony, 16 grandchildren and 54 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at the Rexburg South Stake Center (5200 S. 2000 W.) at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Redge Allen conducting. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday evening from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby (101 W. Main Street) and prior to the service on Wednesday at the Stake Center from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel. The family is grateful for the Homestead Assisted Living and Rexburg Home Hospice for the gentle care and attention to detail that was shown to Verla.
