Viola Mckinley Asay

Viola McKinley Waldron Bugg Asay, 90, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully February 22, 2012 surrounded by her family in Idaho Falls. She was born December 11, 1921 in Howe, Idaho to John and Rosa Larson McKinley; the eleventh of twelve children. She graduated from Mackay High School. In her youth she actively participated in music, drama, and athletics. Later in life one rarely found her television tuned to anything but sports. She married Walter Griffith Waldron May 26, 1941, three weeks before he left for World War II. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on February 6, 1965. They were rarely apart and she was able to join him often during his military service in the states. After the war they made their first home in Pocatello. They later moved to Mackay, where Walt worked as a teacher and principal for 39 years. The family enjoyed summers in the mountains of the Challis National Forrest where Walt worked for the Forest Service. They were blessed with six children, including son, Michael, who died shortly after birth. Walt preceded her in death in January, 1985. On June 7, 1986 she married her good friend, Clint Bugg. They live in Shoshone, Boise, and Lewisville. They enjoyed gardening, canning and decorating their home together; He passed away in October 2002. Later she was reunited with her high school sweetheart, Royal Asay, and they married on August 30, 2003. He passed away November 2009. She worked in many occupations during her life including clerical, retail management, and wedding planning and catering. She was a faithful member of LDS Church and especially enjoyed many years serving as a Mia Maid advisor. Viola’s greatest joy in life was being a mother, wife, and homemaker. Her home was a welcome haven for family, friends, and strangers in need. It was always spotless, warm and full of love and good food. She enjoyed entertaining, sewing, cooking and writing poetry and children’s stories. Her family extends their gratitude the staff of Parkwood Meadows Assisted Living and Creekside Hospice for their loving care of Viola in the last years of her life. She is survived by her sons, Gary (Linda) Waldron, of Twin Falls, Tim (Lori) Waldron, of Boise, and Rick (JoAnn)Waldron, of Idaho Falls; daughters, Vicki Blackburn, of Lewisville, and Wendi (Drue) Plamer, of Riverside, 19 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 3 husbands, a son, Michael, 2 sisters, Mabel Fallert, Ethel Hawkes, and 9 brothers, John, Patrick, Ted, Floyd, Russell, Melvin, Calvin, Art, and Sylvester McKinley. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2012, at the Lewisville 1st Ward LDS Chapel, with Bishop Val Rosenberg, conducting. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services, both at the church. Burial will be in the Mt. McCaleb Cemetery in Mackay, under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
