Violet Louise Foster, age 90, of Rigby, passed away July 12, 2008 at the home of her daughter in Rigby due to causes incident to her age. She was under the care of Creekside Hospice.
She was born July 18, 1917, in San Diego, California a daughter to George B. Vasey and Elizabeth L. Broad Vasey. She married George K. Rochefort April 7, 1935 and had five daughters. She raised her daughters alone for five years and married George J. Foster July 5, 1949. She attended schools in San Diego and lived there for 45 years moving to Rigby in 1972. Due to the health of her husband they returned to Southern California. Violet returned to Rigby in 1988. She worked as a waitress, cook, and later manager of school cafeteria’s for the San Diego Unified School District. She owned and operated Bags N’ Things in Rigby in the Mid 70’s. She was an excellent seamstress, made purses, garment bags and other specialty items. She loved to bowl, raise a garden and caned the harvest giving out buckets of her canned goods to grandchildren at Christmas. Dried cinnamon apples have crossed the U.S. all made from Vi’s love to cook and spread the rewards of the effort. Violet loved to get in her car and hit the road on a whim. She loved going out to the Palisades area and a square ice cream in Swan Valley was the highlight of the trip.
She is survived by her children: June Killian of Rigby, May (Ken) Thurman of Rigby, Georgann (Dick) Fitzek of Rigby, Ellen (David) Barnes of Beebe, Arkansas, Diane Becvar of Rigby and John (Delores) Foster of Kennedy Meadows, California, 18 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and 21 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband George Foster one brother Sidney Vasey and a son-in-law Max Killian.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 9, 2008, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby. The family will visit with friends from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Internment will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery.
