Virgil Reed Stewart, 85 of Dubois, died Thursday, April 3, 2014 at his home.
He was born February 20, 1929 in Teton City, Idaho to Reed Frank Stewart and Sarah Marie Willey Stewart. He was raised and attended school in Teton, Lost River, and at the age of 12 he moved to Grant, Montana. He worked on ranches and mines in Shupe, Montana. He served in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Lawton in Washington. He then worked as a handyman at the Railroad Café in Leadore; where he met Dorothy Smith. They moved to Colorado to be closer to her family. After she passed away he moved to Dubois.
Reed was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; he enjoyed prospecting, hunting, fishing and any outdoor activities.
He is survived by his sisters, Jean Beck, of Pocatello, Jessie (Bruce) Corman of Dillon, Montana, Judy (Mike) Knapp, of Anaconda, Montana, Jaye Christensen, of Grant, Montana, Brothers, Keith V. Stewart, of Dubois, P. Jack (Della) Stewart, of Shelley, Jim (Sherrie) Christensen, of Dillon, Montana.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, and his companion, Dorothy Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 9th at the Beaver Creek LDS Chapel in Dubois, with Bishop Neil Wood, conducting. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Dubois Cemetery.
