Virginia Molen Mccandless

January 2, 1917 — May 2, 2006

Virginia Molen McCandless, 89, of Menan, died at her home on Tuesday, May 2, 2006. Virginia was born January 2, 1917 in Menan, Idaho, the youngest child of William D. Molen and Ida May Staker Molen. Virginia spent most of her life in the Menan area-most of it in the family home on Main Street. She attended school at the Menan School where her dad was a teacher, and graduated from Midway High School as valedictorian. Her first job was as a sales clerk at the old J.L. Hayes and Sons store, a half block east of the family home. After her children were grown, she worked as a clerk in the Menan Post Office. She enjoyed knowing and associating with the people of the town. Virginia married Joseph Ray McCandless on June 25, 1938, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They had four children. They were later divorced. Virginia’s greatest satisfaction in life was her family, who will miss her dearly. She also loved gardening, reading and poetry. She was able to recite pages and pages of poetry and wrote several poems of her own. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survivors include her four children, Kent R. (Rosalyn) McCandless of Idaho Falls, Kathleen (Dennis) Storms of Menan, Marilyn (Ned) Karren of Bellevue, WA, and Nancy (Craig) Dodd of Idaho Falls, fifteen grandchildren, and twenty-two great grandchildren. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jay W. Molen, and her two sisters, Veanetta Boyce and Lenore Standifird. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 6, 2006 at the Menan 1st Ward Chapel at 11:00 a.m. The family will visit with friends on Friday, May 5 from 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the Eckersell Memorial Chapel. Interment will be at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to your favorite charity.
