Virginia Mame Prophet

Virginia Mame Chiles Prophet, 94, of Rigby, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2015, at her home surrounded by her family. Virginia was born January 5, 1921, in Rigby, Idaho, to Bartren Chiles and Mary Isabell Peacock Chiles. She attended Rigby schools and graduated from Rigby High School. She married David Deering Prophet in Rigby on May 6, 1941. They farmed and ranched in Rigby and the Bone areas. Her passion was walking, and she loved to garden and read. She was fondly remembered for entertaining family and friends with a beaming smile, a pot of tea, and her famous peanut butter cookies. She did embroidery work and won ribbons at the county fair, where she enjoyed working each summer. She was a hard worker, loved the outdoors and animals, and never missed an activity or event that her family was involved in. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She is survived by three daughters: Dona Decker (Don) of Rigby, Elaine Boyce (Glen) of Rigby, and Linda Sandifer (Van) of Iona, 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bart and Maybelle Chiles, her husband David Prophet, a son Dale Prophet, a daughter Lorraine Prophet, and brothers Jack Chiles and Bill Chiles. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 23, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Labelle Third Ward church, 4223 E. 528 N., Rigby. The family will visit with friends Sunday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel and on Monday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery. The family expresses their appreciation to OneSource Hospice and particularly to Jamie Gudmunson for the special care she gave Virginia.
