Virl Newell Jardine

February 21, 1918 — June 7, 2004

Virl Newell Jardine, 86, of Idaho Falls passes away Monday, June 7th, at his home of cancer under the care of Aspen Foundation for Hospice Care. Virl arrived here in Idaho Falls on February 21, 1918 the son of parents Rhoda Mary Newell Jardine and Lester Hamilton Jardine. Having lived most of his 86 years in Idaho Falls, he graduated from Idaho Falls High School serving as student body president his senior year. He attended the U of U for one year and also served his country during WWII and the Korean War. Virl married Lois Lovenia Peterson in Rockwall, Texas on September 9, 1942. They were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple the following March. He was employed at the Greyhound Bus Station from 1939 to 1956. He worked for a brief time at Phillips Petroleum and then for Business Management Service before going into business for himself as a public accountant until he retired in 1983. Virl was an Eagle Scout and worked for the Teton Peaks Council for many years. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the Young Men’s Organization, as Elder’s Quorum President, Bishopric Counselor 3 times and then Bishop. He served on the High Council and was called to be the Patriarch of the Idaho Falls Stake. He served many years as a temple officiator, sealer, and as a Counselor in the Idaho Falls Temple Presidency with Preston Brimhall and Lynn Benson. Hobbies included reading, dancing with his wife of almost 62 years, and avid genealogist. He served his community as a member and President of the Idaho Falls Lions Club. He was also on the July 24th Celebration planning committee for many years. Survivors include his wife, Lois, of Idaho Falls; Children: Christine (Lee) Fuchs, Jeffrey (Bonita), and Gregory (Jolene) Jardine all of Idaho Falls; Richard (Verlinda) Jardine of Overland Park, Kansas, and Jennifer (Paul) Scharman of Houston, Texas; one sister Kathleen (Joe) Woolf of Idaho Falls, and a brother, Earl D.(Marcene) Jardine of Oxnard, Calif. ; 28 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Preceeding him in death were his parents and a brother, Ray F. Jardine. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 11, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the Idaho Falls Stake Center (1155 East 1st) with Bishop Mel Georgeson presiding and Bishop Jeffrey Jardine conducting. The family will meet with friends, Thursday, June 10, 2004 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Idaho Falls LDS Stake Center and on Friday, June 11, 2004 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. also at the Idaho Falls LDS Stake Center. Burial will be in the Lewisville Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Funeral Home.
