Wallace “Garen” Hancock, 73, of Lewisville, died October 1, 2009, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
He was born April 5, 1936, in Lewisville to Solomon Ward Hancock, and Rosetta Fife Hancock. He was raised and attended schools in Lewisville and Graduated from Rigby High School.
In April 1953, he married Vona K. Allen in the Idaho Falls, LDS Temple, they were later divorced. On August 1, 1964, he married Eileen Jones; in the Idaho Falls, LDS Temple, they were later divorced. He worked as a heavy equipment operator in Southeast Idaho, and owned Garen Hancock Construction.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served a stake mission in the Rigby Stake. Garen enjoyed traveling, camping, mechanical work, memorizing poetry, stories and jokes; he especially enjoyed his family and friends.
He is survived by a daughter; Nawlene Hancock (Dusty) Umphrey, of Mesa, Arizona, sons; Nathan L. (Teresa) Hancock, of Ucon, Todd A. (Brenda) Hyde, of Iona, Ward L. (Sheri’le) Hancock, of Lewisville, sisters, Nelda H. (Larry) Drollinger, Judy Hancock, both of Lewisville, 17 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sons; Brett Hancock, Bennair Hancock, brothers; Nolan Hancock and Cloyd Hancock.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, October 9, 2009, at the Lewisville LDS Chapel, with Bishop James Gneiting, conducting. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main St., Rigby and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Lewisville Cemetery, under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
