Wanda Moss Mortimer

April 17, 1915 — August 6, 2010

Clara Wanda Moss Mortimer, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2010, at the age of 95 years. Wanda, as she was known throughout her life was born on April 17, 1915 to Joseph Crich and Clara L. Horman Moss in Iona, Idaho. She graduated from Iona High School and Ricks College with a Teaching Certificate. She also studied Foods and Nutrition at Brigham Young University. She loved children and taught 1st grade and was an Aid in Reading Resource at Fairview Elementary School, Fairview, Idaho, retiring from this position. She married Don Mortimer from Hibbard, Idaho in the Salt Lake, Utah LDS Temple February 19, 1941 living in Idaho most of their married life. They were blessed with eleven (11) children. She was active her whole life in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a firm testimony and loved serving in all the organizations of the church. She also loved attending the temple. She served a mission for the LDS church with her husband Don to the South Dakota, Rapid City Mission in 1981-83. Later, after the death of her husband, she served a mission to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah for two years. A few months after returning from her mission Wanda moved to Logan, Utah, where she lived for five years in her own apartment. In late 2008, when no longer able to live by herself, she began spending time between the homes of her two daughters, Donna Jean Humphreys and Elaine Ricks. In March 2010 she moved back to Idaho where she was living with her daughter, Renee Stucki, until her death. She was a wonderful example to all who knew her and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her family, which consists of her children and their spouses, all of whom are living: Renee (Karl) Stucki, Garfield, Idaho; Larry (Orkell), Rigby, Idaho; Wayne (Alice), Bluffdale, Utah; Donna Jean (Robert) Humphreys, Millville, Utah, currently serving an LDS mission in Nauvoo, Illinois; Lyle (Sheila), Springville, Utah; Dean (Judy), Idaho Falls, Idaho; Elaine (Nathan) Ricks, Benson, Utah; Doyle (Kitty), Orem, Utah; Dale (Doris), Rigby, Idaho; Gary (Kathy), Thatcher, Utah; and Lynn (Carol), Clearwater, Idaho. She had 79 grandchildren,164 great-grandchildren, 3 step-great grandchildren and 3 foster great- grandchildren. Her family was her greatest joy. She is also survived by a Brother-in-law Eldon Croft and Sisters-in-law Ada Moss and Verla Moss. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers, Rulon, Elwood, Wardell, Wm. Francis, Darrell and Eldon Moss, her sisters Elma Croft and Verla Jeppson, sisters-in law, Karine Moss and Thelma Moss, brother-in law Nilo Jeppson and grandchildren, Todd Nathan Ricks and Clara Dawn Ricks. Funeral Services will be held under the direction of the Eckersell Memorial Chapel of Rigby Idaho. A viewing will be held August 13, 2010 from 7 pm to 8:30 pm at the Eckersell Memorial Chapel located at 101 West Main St., Rigby, Idaho and also August 14, 2010 from 9:30 am to 10:45 am prior to the service which will begin at 11:00 am at the Garfield 1st & 2nd Ward LDS Chapel located at 71 North 3700 East, Rigby, Idaho. Interment will be next to her husband in the Ammon, Idaho Cemetery 5226 East Sunnyside Road, Idaho Falls, Idaho.
