Wayne Raymond Barrow passed away early in the morning on May 20, 2016 at the Wellington Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Wayne was born January 29, 1928 in Rigby, Idaho to Earl Raymond Barrow and Jessie Elizabeth Daniels Brown. He was the fourth child in a family of three brothers and two sisters. His father Earl died when he was seven years of age. Six years later, his mother married Robert H. Olsen. Their marriage added a sister and two brothers.
His mother had always encouraged his singing and music in their home, and his dad Bob Olsen taught him to appreciate hunting and fishing.
Wayne attended elementary, junior high, and high school at Rigby and graduated in May 1948.
In January of 1949, Wayne entered the mission home to fill a mission in Norway. While sailing on the ship to Norway he only lost breakfast twice. During the 29 months he served in Norway he had 14 companions. The last six months of his mission he was in a double quartet which toured Norway putting on concerts in 12 of the major cities.
He served as Airman Second Class in the U.S. Air Force in Texas and Iceland as a Meteorologist Aid during the Korean Conflict.
Four months after he was discharged from the service he met his wife Marlene Georgia Mugleston, on a blind date. Six months later on November 10, 1954, they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple.
On April 10 1955, they went to Glasgow, Montana where he worked for the Weather Bureau. In July he and Marlene returned to Rigby where together they raised their 5 children. He worked at the Idaho Transportation Department for 36 years as a Laboratory Technician and a Records Inspector. He was an active member of the LDS church and served as a temple ordinance worker for many years. He and Marlene served a mission together in Fort Worth, Texas from 1996-1998.
Wayne was a Hunter Education Instructor for 35 years. He served many years with the Boy Scouts of America, and was always teaching merit badge classes and was a merit badge councilor for 3 years. He received his Silver Beaver award April 10, 2010.
Wayne loved to sing. He sang with the Carousel Chorus and for many plays and funerals. His voice will be missed. Family, God and Country were Wayne's greatest loves and accomplishments.
He is survived by his wife Marlene, children James (Betty) Barrow, Elaine (Richard) Randolph, Emma Lee Barrow, Jalene (Robert) Magee, son-in-law Elwin Harrison and his brother Donald (Connie) Barrow, 15 grandchildren and 20 great -grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Earl Raymond Barrow, Jessie Barrow and Robert H. Olsen, a daughter Kathy Harrison, two sisters Norma and Lucile Barrow, and brothers Earl J. Barrow, Lynn Merrill Barrow, Robert Olsen, Marvin Olsen and great-granddaughter McKinley Koyle .
Funeral Services will be Thursday, May 26th 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Garfield 6th Ward LDS Chapel 71 North 3700 East, Rigby, Idaho. The family will visit with friends at the Garfield Church, Wednesday, May 25th 2016 from 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. Interment will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.eckersellfuneralhome.com.
