Wayne Meredith Duke

Wayne Meredith Duke, 81, of Roberts, died Friday, December 25, 2009, in Idaho Falls. Wayne was born in Mt. Vernon, Lawrence County, Missouri on October 7, 1928, son of William Monroe Duke and Ethel Clarice Pennington Duke. He lived in Missouri until he moved to Sheridan, Wyoming to work on a ranch. He joined the Navy in March of 1946. Wayne married June Marjorie Watts of Roberts on April 15, 1951 in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. He worked in California on the oil rigs, at Stoddard Ford, Pools Auto Body, Buds Auto Body and Capital Auto Body in repair and painting. Wayne built race cars with Lynn Treasure, was a car show enthusiast and a car customizer. Wayne is survived by one daughter Kathie (Pete) Goddard of Roberts, Three sons Ron Duke of Elk Grove, CA, Rod (Lana) Duke of Roberts, Reggie (Miriam) Duke of Idaho Falls, five sisters, Bonnie (Bob) Barker of Springfield, Mo, Barbara Mckinley of Aurora, MO, Maxine Brashers of Marionville, MO, Janet Winsor of Springfield, MO, Evelyn Beck of Ash Grove, MO, thirteen grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, wife June, two brothers, four sisters, and one granddaughter. Funeral services will be held on December 30, 2009 at the Eckersell Memorial Chapel at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. and prior to the service on Wednesday from 11-30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. both at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Burton Cemetery.
