Wayne Watson Keppner, age 88, of Menan, died at his home Sunday, September 11, 2011.
Wayne was born February 22, 1923 in Hibbard, Idaho a son to Joseph Keppner and Catherine Watson Keppner, the ninth child with four older brothers and sisters. He attended schools in Hibbard and Rigby. He graduated from Midway High School in 1941. He earned letters in basketball, track and football. He was a member of the Future Farmers of America. He married Nadine Verna Johnson, June 1, 1942 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple by Harold B. Lee. They were married for 69 years.
He worked as a postmaster in Lewisville, Safeway’s grocery store in Rigby and Dutson Grocery Store. He was the owner of Keppner’s Korner Grocery Store and service Station in Menan. He worked for Pacific Bag Company in Idaho Falls and for L.D.S. Hospital as an engineer in Idaho Falls for 18 years and was voted employee of the month.
As a member of the LDS Church he served in the Sunday School, Young Men’s programs, as secretary of the Elders quorum and as executive secretary to the Bishopric. He was a home teacher for 62 years.
He was an avid horseman and trainer, an accomplished lapadarist, cutting and polishing semi-precious stones, silver smithing, leatherwork and braiding and enjoyed trail riding with his buddies “The Targhee Trail Riders” for many years.
He is survived by his children Linda Lee (Jude) Feucht of Mamou, Louisiana, Shauna Marnae (Gary) Dalton of Salt Lake City, Utah, LaPreal (Kirt) Hayes of Rigby, Randy Wayne (Diane)Keppner of Basalt, Monte Kae (Linda) Keppner of Idaho Falls, and Tony Kim Keppner of Menan. 35 grandchildren, 99 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Nadine, 4 sisters and 4 brothers.
Funeral services will be held Saturday September 17, 2011 at the Menan Stake Center with Bishop Gary Asper conducting. The family will visit with friends on Friday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Eckersell Funeral Home, and prior to the service at the stake center from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
