William "Bill" Mont Thornton

William “Bill” Mont Thornton, 87, of Rexburg, passed away Friday, October 18, 2019 at Homestead Assisted Living in Rexburg.

Bill was born July 2, 1932 at Monroe, Utah a son to Joseph Mont Thornton and Wanda Ahlstrom Thornton. He attended schools in Idaho Falls including Idaho Falls High School.  He joined the United States Navy where he earned his GED while serving during the Korean War.

He married Thurla Ann Mobley, February 6, 1958 in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he served a mission to the Great Lakes Mission and then with his wife, served in the Kirtland, Ohio Mission.  He also served in the Elders Quorum, Sunday School, as a High Priest Instructor and as nursery director.

His life work was as a painter at the INEL for 28 years and as a paint contractor throughout South East Idaho.

He enjoyed fishing, camping, landscape painting and family hiking in Idaho.

He is survived by his wife Thurla of Rexburg, three daughters; Susan (Eric) Fenton of Canton, Ohio, Becky (Wayne) Wilson of Phoenix, Arizona and Brenda (Ron) Call of Rexburg, five sons; William Bryan Thornton of Pocatello, Kevin (Nancy) Thornton of Fairfield, California, Alan (Audra) Thornton of Bairoil, Wyoming, Robert (Sarah) Thornton of Tooele, Utah, and Aaron (Jodi) Thornton of Beaverdam, Wisconsin, two sisters; Wanda “Mae” (Richard) Pattee of Provo, Utah and Rena (George) Danklefsen of Ammon, Idaho, two brothers; Burt (Sandra) Thornton of Ammon and Stephen (Ann) Thornton of Grant, 31 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Jim Thornton and Ray Thornton.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 West Main Street, Rigby Idaho 83442. The family will visit with friends Saturday at the funeral home, from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
