Listen to Obituary

William “Bill” Yates Mercer 86, of Menan, Idaho passed away peacefully on May 20th, 2026, in Idaho Falls, ID. Bill was born at home November 20, 1939, to Charles and Geneve Mercer of Lehi, Utah.

Bill was a proud graduate of Lehi High School, class of 1959 where he played basketball and football. Unsurprisingly, his favorite class was Vocational Farm Shop. Bill served an LDS mission in Georgia. He later attended Carbon College, BYU, and Ricks College, obtaining a Masters Degree in Education. Bill served as a member of the Utah National Guard.

Bill married Brenda Wilcox who gave him his children, Lisa and Dawn. He later married the love of his life, Beverly Green, and with her children Vicki and Bruce Likes, their family was complete.

Bill was a proud Latter Day Saint and remained faithful his whole life. Bill served 3 senior missions for his church, having been called to Washington DC, South Dakota, and Temple Square.

Bill loved being a farmer and everything it entailed. He raised various livestock, while living in a house he built with his own hands. He could fix anything! He loved Ford cars and International pick ups.

Bill was adventurous by nature, going on 9 cruises and traveling to various parts of the world with the love of his life, Beverly. Their traveling companions often included their kids, and, later, grandkids. He was always up for a road trip and a fudgesicle.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and in-laws: Arva (John) Smith, Charles Mercer, Julian Mercer, Dave Monson, his son, Bruce Likes, and grandson Christopher Nelson, as well as countless others to welcome him home.

Bill is survived by his siblings and in-laws, Jetta Monson, and Diana Mercer and his children: Vicki (Doyle) Nelson, Bruce (Ceri) Likes, Lisa Mercer Bird, and Dawn (Michael) Bliss. Bill was well loved by his children, 15 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, and we will miss him terribly. If you knew grandpa, you knew he loved grandma, and as heavy as our hearts are, we find peace in them being together again.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026, at the Menan 2nd Ward, 3547 E. Menan Lorenzo Hwy, Menan, Idaho 83434.
