Wilma Cook Ririe Pettit, 93, of Salem, Oregon, formerly of Ririe, died March 26, 2007 of natural causes.
She was born August 26, 1913 in Milo, Idaho a daughter of George Hunter Cook and Elva Elizabeth Garn Cook. She attended schools in Milo, graduated from Ucon High School and attended the Business College in Idaho Falls. She married Eldon Clyde Ririe on October 10, 1935 in the Salt Lake Temple. He died on March 23, 1940. On June 16, 1952 she married H. L. Pettit of Pocatello. He died August 12, 1991. Wilma was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in the Primary, Young Women's Organization, and Relief Society, was elected as Jefferson County Treasurer in 1942, the first female elected officer in the County where she served two terms, she served as Secretary to the Superintendent of Jefferson County Schools, was a member of D.U.P. Los Altos Camp, a member of the Rigby Women’s Literary Club and was the Secretary for Dickmans Construction Co. in California for several years. She lived in Ririe, Pocatello, Idaho Falls, Salt Lake City, Utah, Mountain View, California, and Salem, Oregon.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Vard B. Holland (Garna) of Salem, Oregon, three stepsons, Richard, Robert and Edwin. Her son (Eldon Garth) died May 6, 1995. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and fifteen Step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 14, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ririe LDS Stake Center, 14061 North 130 East, Ririe, Idaho. The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Stake Center. Burial will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
