Winnie Hoggan Cottle

August 3, 1915 — April 24, 2005

Winnie Hoggan Cottle, 89, of Menan died at her home April 24, 2005, surrounded by those who loved her. She was born August 3, 1915, in Lewisville, Idaho to Alma John and Ellen Jardine Hoggan. She attended Lewisville Elementary and Midway High School. On December 30, 1931, she married Lyle Cottle in Menan. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Their 73 years together brought hard work, sadness, joy and eternal love. Winnie has been active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving many years in Primary and Relief Society. She has left a legacy of service to her children and grandchildren, each of us hoping to live up to her example in some small way. Her thoughts were always of others, thinking of special things she could do to bring happiness to those around her. As we’ve read her journals, we realize even more the love Winnie has for her family. She is survived by her husband Lyle of Menan, a son Jay (Orial) of Menan daughters, Lorna Shippen (Ronald) of Menan, Jan Gleason of Sandy, Utah, and Barbara Hancock (Dean) of Menan. She leaves behind three sisters, Mary Lou Christiansen of Jerome, Ruthe Searle and Luana Widerburg of Idaho Falls. A loving grandmother, she is survived by 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. Winnie was preceded in death by three sisters, Zoe McLing, Claudine Hoggan, and Jean Hale, a brother Jack Hoggan and a grandson Scott Gleason. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Menan Second Ward Church on Main Street with Bishop Eric Beck conducting. The family will visit with friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel and on Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:45 at the church. Interment will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery. The family would like to thank Hands of Hope Hospice and Creekside Home Health for their loving care.
